Dear AKBC Members,

The AKBC would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Korean people following the deadly crowd surge in Seoul’s Itaewon district on the 29th of October. This is a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of the 153 victims as they navigate this difficult time.

On Thursday 27 October, the Australia-Korea Business Council in collaboration with the KHIDI hosted the Australia-Korea Health and Biotech Briefing and Dinner.

Dear AKBC Members,

The world’s largest exhibition exploring opportunities to grow the global hydrogen economy kicked off in Korea this month, with WA State Minister for the Hydrogen Industry, the Hon. Alannah MacTiernan MLC, providing the keynote address. H2 Mobility Energy Environment Technology – or H2Meet in short – brought together a total of 241 experts, government officials and industry figures from 16 different countries in order to exhibit their latest technological achievements in the hydrogen industry and advance international cooperation in the increasingly important field. Minister MacTiernan attended the event as part of her three-day investment and trade mission to Korea, aimed at attracting Korean investment into Western Australian renewable energy.

Dear AKBC Members,

Hello everyone, this is my first message to the AKBC community since joining AKBC as the Acting Executive Director so thank you all for the warm welcome. It has been incredible to see the activity in the bilateral relationship between Australia and Korea and AKBC is well positioned to promote these opportunities to our members and community. I would also like to thank Liz Griffin for her tremendous work thus far before she goes on parental leave later this week.

On behalf of the AKBC Executive Committee, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Louise Clunies-Ross as our new Acting Executive Director. While Louise will officially start in the role from 5 September 2022 once I go on parental leave, she has already joined the organisation and is quickly learning the ropes to ensure a seamless transition.

On Friday 19 August, the Australia-Korea Business Council in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea hosted the third Australia-Korea New Energy Forum.

Dear AKBC Members,

A big welcome home to our 13 AKBC delegates who recently visited Korea as part of our 2022 delegation to Korea. Led by the Hon. Simon Crean and former Australian Ambassador to Korea Bill Paterson, this year’s program was designed to further engagement between Australia and Korea in hydrogen and critical minerals – the two sectors we’ve identified as most promising in the pair’s economic relationship.
