POSCO to Build World's Largest Battery Cathode Plant Cluster

📢 NEWS 📢

POSCO Future M, a battery materials supplier, has begun construction on its fifth cathode materials plant in Gwangyang. As the world's largest manufacturing cluster for cathode materials, this facility not only underscores South Korea's leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) battery market but also presents potential collaboration opportunities for Australian businesses in the battery materials sector. The facility, scheduled for completion by April next year, will produce 52,500 tons of cathode materials annually, catering to 580,000 EVs, exclusively supplying Samsung SDI Co.

Once operational, POSCO Future M's Gwangyang complex will have a capacity of 142,500 tons, the world's largest for a single manufacturing cluster. The company aims to achieve an annual production of 1 million-ton cathodes by 2030. Additionally, the plant will focus on mass-producing single-crystal NCA cathodes, enhancing safety and battery lifespan.
